I often hear about peoples experiences with different furniture brands and a common criticism of other paints is the lingering and noxious smell they produce.
If you know me, you will know I have a twitchy, sensitive nose and sneeze when confronted by nasty pongs.
Sometimes it’s a squeak of a snezzle, and sometimes a whooping thumper of a sneeze so providing Kitchen Cupboard Paint that had no aroma was vital for me, you and those you love.
Of course, it’s not just about the smell. It is what causes the nasty niff and it’s associated effects that are important to avoid for the good of your health.
Paint is made up of several components; some are of natural origins such as minerals, chalk, clays or natural oils. Other ingredients such as binders, pigments and additives are more often synthetically-derived from different industrial chemical processes. All the components undergo some degree refinement, processing or chemical treatment, so they result in excellent quality, long-lasting paint.
These production steps necessitate the use of different process aids, including substances classed as VOCs - Volatile Organic Compounds. Although every effort is made to remove them, there will still be trace amounts in the finished raw materials that are used to make the paint.
The nasty niffs that some brands of furniture paint release from the paint into the air, causing atmospheric pollution, are as a result of very high level Volatile Organic Compounds.
So do check the details on the paint you buy and if it reads:
“Warning: HIGH VOC CONTENT 25-50% VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds) contribute to atmospheric pollution. May produce an allergic reaction. Keep out of reach of children. Always read instructions.”
Choose Kitchen Cupboard Paint instead.
